About Centre for Advancement of Trenchless Technologies

Established in 1994, CATT is a grouping of university, municipal, industrial, business and government agencies committed to the advancement of knowledge, materials, methods and equipment used in trenchless technologies. CATT’s goal is to serve its members and the public by addressing the critical issues facing underground infrastructure installation, assessment, repair, renewal and management.

CATT is located at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Geographically, the Centre is positioned to serve Canada and the northern United States.

Research is the foundation of CATT’s presence at the University of Waterloo. Research areas include horizontal directional drilling (HDD), trenchless construction of leachate drains in municipal solid waste, waste water and water pipeline condition assessment, buried infrastructure asset management, testing of pipeline renovation materials, deterioration and renewal of water and waste water networks, etc. CATT also provides professional services such as the testing and development of new products, material testing, and specialized research for CATT members, municipalities and North American trenchless manufacturers and suppliers. A sample of CATT’s diverse client list includes: Sanexen Environmental Services, City of Toronto, City of Waterloo, Evanco Environmental Services, Liquiforce Services, Haley & Aldrich, Channeline, Capital Pipe Services, Plastic Pipe Institute, Royal Pipe Systems, South East Pipe Services, St .Gobain Technical Fabrics, Pressure Pipe Inspection Company, Pipeflo, and UMA-AECOM.
